Of Course my sister's party was great.. and fun was had by all... I decided since this is a no duh thing I would review the 2 locations instead....
713 Sushi and Lounge.
Upon the drive up I could tell this sushi 'bar' was going to be interesting. It is in a popular strip center that has to compete with Chili's,Outback, La Madeline and a few one hit wonders. As soon as you walk in you see the bar and 'dance floor' basically they removed some chairs and made the bar space smaller for the dancing area. The rest of the restaurant has modern decor w/ the sushi bar on the back wall. Since we had a large party we were sat in the back. And we began to see that service would be 'ify'. She only took half the tables drink orders at a time. And did not explain any of the menu. So if you have never had sushi.. you were S.O.L.
Also, when she was asked something she was vague in what exactly we would be served. The sushi guros at the table helped the newbies and the orders were finally placed. She decided to bring the food as it was ready so everyone ate at different times.
The veggie fried rice was good. It had green beans, mini corn, carrots and lots and lots of rice.
I had the opportunity to taste the grilled chicken pasta in white wine sauce. It was ok. The chicken had been marinaded in ginger. Which is not enjoyable to me. But it was ok.
And everyone at the table leaned towards the rib eye rolls.. which were very nice. But it was like having a bite of steak with a bite of rice. Perhaps if we were in a smaller group our service would have been better. And give that we were mandated the 18% due to our group size.. we kinda expected some better attention.. oh.. They were NOT crowded. It was Saturday night and there were only a couple tables with people.. so there was no reason for the attention to scarce. And even though we told her it would be split checks from the beginning she still asked again at the end and retook orders to see who had what.. not good..
NEXT...
Sherlock's on West Grey.
We had called ahead for a table. Which was ready. And the waitress was on us immediately.
She got all our drink orders correct and even was ready to do split checks. The basketball game was going.. which made the band run late on their appearance.
Vertigo is a local band that plays 80's music. We went to THIS location specifically to see this band. They went on about 15 minutes late.. which was fine. They were great. And people were in great spirits..and not just b/c of the alcohol usage. Houston does not allow smoking in bars so the room was smoke free and really nice. The waitress was very, very attentive. And the manager checked on us periodically. The Guinness.. is fantastic! OF course!
So lets just say perhaps next time.. we will eat at Sherlock's and for go the 713 sushi.
Yes I have a funny story about that night.. and I will talk about that later.. I look like someone...and it made for a funny thing for the night.
Until we meet again.
